OVERVIEW
Our client — a leading Japanese bank operating in New York — is seeking a CRM Assistant Vice President (AVP) to join its Control & Risk Management Group. Reporting to the CRM VP & Manager, this is a newly created role with meaningful scope: you will support branch governance, lead operational risk management, and drive risk committee activities. You will play a key role in strengthening the Branch's risk management frameworks and oversight reporting capabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Branch Governance
- Review, develop, and implement Branch CRM policies in coordination with the CRM VP & Manager and senior management; liaise with Head Office as appropriate
- Strengthen general Branch Governance activities, including annual updates to Committee Policies & Procedures
- Lead and continuously enhance the Branch's Model Risk management framework; maintain a model register and align Branch policy with Head Office standards
- Support development of the Branch's Conduct & Culture Risk framework, aligned with Head Office and other offshore Branches
- Support integration of emerging and evolving risks into the Branch risk framework
US Risk Committee (USRC) Governance
- Coordinate and support quarterly USRC pack production and minute-taking, including submission to Head Office for review
- Complete the semiannual USRC report by liaising with stakeholders to confirm Branch activities are within the US Risk Appetite
Team Reporting & Governance
- Enhance Branch oversight reporting and metrics on behalf of Risk; uplift the Risk Team Dashboard to highlight key risks for senior management
- Develop non-financial metrics and operational resilience analysis, including setting key metrics
- Support Branch risk governance committees as needed
- Manage routine administrative tasks and reporting obligations within the Branch
Operational Risk Management
- Lead and continuously enhance the Branch's operational risk management; update and maintain Policies & Procedures and the Branch operational risk incident register
- Identify, measure, review, aggregate, monitor, control, and report operational risks within the US risk appetite, independently from business operations
- Prepare monthly operational risk reports for Branch senior management, the IT & Operational Risk Committee, and the quarterly overview for the USRC
- Organize presentations and minutes for the monthly IT & Operational Risk Management Committee on rotation
- Implement periodic operational risk training for Branch staff
Back-up / Secondary Responsibilities
- Serve as backup for the CRM VP & Manager and CRM team members as needed, including reviewing risk management reporting, processes, and policies
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in enterprise risk, operational risk, or risk reporting
- Experience in a complex, multi-jurisdictional financial organization, ideally regulated by FRB, OCC, or NY DFS
- Knowledge of related federal and state laws and regulations is an advantage
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Strong understanding of enterprise and aggregated risk management frameworks
- High attention to detail with sound judgment in a complex regulatory environment
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for senior stakeholder engagement
- Collaborative mindset with experience working across teams and with Head Office counterparts
No Japanese language skills are necessary.
