Overview

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Die Engineer with extensive knowledge in the setup, repair, and operation of stamping dies and presses. The ideal candidate will have more than eight years of experience working with Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive suppliers or die manufacturers. The role involves assembling and testing complex dies imported from Japan or sourced locally and working closely with the Engineering Manager and Japanese counterparts to develop and refine die designs that meet customer quality standards.

We also welcome recent graduates with a Mechanical Engineering degree and 2–3 years of related experience.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up and conduct die trials for 45–1200 ton stamping and transfer presses, including imported Japanese equipment.
  • Collaborate with tool and die technicians to maintain die quality and productivity, assisting with shimming and sharpening when necessary.
  • Oversee ongoing maintenance for all dies during production, including those imported from Japan or provided by customers.
  • Coordinate die changes and modifications through direct discussions with customers or clients.
  • Communicate effectively with Japanese engineers during die trials to implement necessary design adjustments.
  • Motivate and supervise departmental personnel to achieve high productivity and strict adherence to quality standards.
  • Train and coach staff under direct supervision in proper skills and knowledge related to die care and maintenance.
  • Foster a team-based approach to problem solving both within and outside the department.
  • Develop and maintain efficient systems for documenting and tracking die repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Plan the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering materials, tolerances, tool types, and machining conditions.
  • Collaborate with product designers to provide feedback on manufacturability of new products.
  • Study blueprints, die and product models, templates, and prototype parts to visualize die structure and function.

主な業務内容
  • 日本から輸入される45~1200トンのプレス・トランスファープレスの金型トライアルを実施。
  • 工具・金型技術者と協力し、品質および生産性を維持(必要に応じてシム調整・刃物研磨などをサポート)。
  • 生産中の全金型(顧客支給・輸入金型含む)の定期メンテナンスを管理。
  • 顧客との打ち合わせを通じて金型変更・改修の調整を行う。
  • 日本人エンジニアとの金型トライアル時の打ち合わせ・調整を実施。
  • 部門スタッフの指導・教育を行い、生産性と品質基準を維持・向上。
  • チームとして問題解決に取り組む姿勢を推進。
  • 金型修理および予防保全に関する記録・追跡システムを構築・維持。
  • 材料、許容差、工具の種類、切削条件などを考慮し、機械加工計画を立案。
  • 新製品開発時における製造可能性について設計者へフィードバックを提供。
  • 金型図面、製品モデル、テンプレート、試作品を読み取り、構造・作動を把握。


Requirements

  • Education / Experience / Skills
    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in General Engineering, Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering, or Materials Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum of 8 years of practical experience in stamping die assembly and operation.
    • 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (automotive preferred).
    • Applicants with experience in any manufacturing engineering field will be considered; full on-the-job training will be provided.
    • Recent graduates with a Mechanical Engineering degree and 2–3 years of related experience are also encouraged to apply.
    • Strong working knowledge of automotive metal stamping and die manufacturing practices, particularly within the Japanese business culture.
    • Proficiency in Japanese (reading, writing, and speaking) is required due to frequent communication with Japanese customers and suppliers.
    • Ability to understand specifications, design concepts, and process documentation written in Japanese.
    • Familiarity with Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) for evaluating and approving new products.
    • Capable of conducting technical discussions regarding production process, design changes, and troubleshooting in Japanese with R&D engineers in Japan.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to respond effectively to customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and CAD drafting software.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time-management abilities.
    Physical Demands:
    Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, and communicate clearly.
    Frequently required to kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit.
    Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
    Must have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment
    Exposure to oil, sharp edges, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and heat.
    Occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical components.
    Noise level is generally very loud; proper PPE is required.Additional Information:
